about

I’ve been trying to think about a circular, xamanic, magic and ritualistic song.
Since I’ve seen this call for works, I was wondering about what I’d like to do.
I was thinking about creating a song about gluttony, but in a different point of view: associating comfort food with comfort places and their memories, or the desire of eating with the desire of living.
In some aspects, making food has been, during the times, something concerned to the inside places, to home, and made mostly by women.
So, kitchens have been seen as spaces to talk and to share important things (life, stories, memories), besides food.
It the end, we (or me, at least) associate food with comfort and warmth.
For this, I chose the arpeggiator to begin, while I was working on the lyrics.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the lyrics, but I just couldn’t write anything for a few days.
Two mornings ago, I woke up with the two final phrases of the lyrics on my mind, in a specific way of saying them.
The next morning, I wrote the entire text, which was almost entirely on the final version.
I’ve been trying to translate it, but at the end, I chose to play with the words, I thought they worked better in Portuguese.
I just translated the two final phrases, and added a new one, directly while recording the entire song.
I create some drum lines, recorded them, and some improvisations at the Kaooscilator.
After, I’ve been making some experiences at the synth, with waveforms and with the arpeggiator.
After this work, I organized the material thinking about densities and dialogues between each texture.
The narrativity was important for me, searching for a circular way of sounding.
The vocalisms come after this, and I tried a specific way of recording, looking for a remembered voice that could be listened as a voice coming from other places, other times, just like a memory of listening.

lyrics

My memories are made by food, places, listening, people, music.
Who told you that your eagerness was gluttony?
When did they tell you that your gluttony is bad?
